    Liverpool close to £156m takeover

Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a £156m takeover by the investment arm of Dubai's government.

The club's board of directors will discuss the final proposals by the Dubai International Capital Group at a meeting on Tuesday.

The deal, which will net chairman David Moores more than £75m, is close to bring completed, but is not expected to be finalised until next week.

Moores, who owns 51.6% of shares, made an initial investment of around £10m.

DIC has almost completed its due diligence, but Liverpool are keen to get the deal done in time to allow them to bring in some new players before the closure of the transfer window on 31 January.

It is unclear what level of investment in players will be made available to manager Rafael Benitez should the deal go through.

On Sunday, Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry said the deal was "not a quick fix, a rich man's play-thing. It's a long-term model for success, based around the new stadium".

"This will take us to the next level," he added.

Dubai group closer to making offer for Liverpool

Dubai International Capital (DIC) are moving closer to a possible takeover of English Premier League club Liverpool, a communications official for the group said on Sunday.

The state-owned investment agency, which owns the Tussauds Group, operator of London's famous waxworks, surfaced as likely investors in the 18-times English champions in December.

DIC chief executive Sameer al-Ansari is a lifelong Liverpool fan who has led other Dubai acquisitions, including the 2005 purchase of a $1 billion stake in DaimlerChrysler.

Ansari, 44, an Arab of Palestinian origin who was educated in England, uses the Liverpool emblem as a screensaver on his mobile phone.

"We are in the process of formulating an offer," the communications official at the agency told Reuters in Dubai on Sunday.

"We are still doing the due diligence," added the official, who did not want to be identified. The official declined to give further details.

British newspapers have valued a takeover at about 450 million pounds.

Earlier, Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told BBC Radio that talks were in their final stages.

"It is a case of finalising the due diligence and pulling everything together, which we hope will be completed relatively quickly," Parry said.

"A huge amount of work has been going on... I imagine we'll have something to say relatively soon on that.

"It is looking positive and yes, I am confident."

Parry also said Liverpool could add to their squad in the January transfer window after they were knocked out of both the FA and League Cups on their home ground by Arsenal.

"You have to have priorities and ours are to invest in the first team, which we have done with substantial sums in the past three years. We may sign players before the transfer window shuts," he said.

    Liverpool sign Italian Under-21

Rafael Benitez continues to add youth to his Liverpool ranks

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Italy Under-21 goalkeeper Daniele Padelli on loan from Sampdoria until the end of the season.

The Reds will have the option to make the move permanent if Padelli impresses at Anfield.

Benitez told the club's official website: 'He's a good young goalkeeper who has been selected for his national side.

Padelli will give us a good option for the future. The fact he is once again with the under-21s for his national side tells you that we are signing a very good player.

The Good Good thing from Dirk Kuyt

The kuyt interview to Liverpoolfc.tv about he help the YOUNG AIDS ORPHANS.

KUYT: WHY I'M 'FATHER' TO YOUNG AIDS ORPHANS

Dirk Kuyt has never been to Nepal. But in a newly built house in a small village in the country which lies at the foot of the Himalayas there are eight young AIDS sufferers who call the Liverpool star "father".

Although they have never met him, the eight orphans have been given a new chance in life thanks to the generosity of Kuyt and his wife, Gertrude.

In an age when so many top footballers live up to the stereotype of flash over-indulgence bordering on the obscene, the 26-year-old is bucking the trend, displaying an attitude which could easily be described as philanthropic.

Twelve months ago, Kuyt set up the Dirk Kuyt Foundation, a charitable organisation which aims to improve the lives of some of the third world's poorest people in places like Nepal and Ghana, as well as in Holland's inner cities.

Since then, with the support of Gertrude, Kuyt's friend Gert Aandewiel and agent Rob Jansen, the foundation has gone from strength to strength and has been singled out for praise by UNICEF and politicians in his native Holland.

The player himself, though, is modest about his achievements. "It is good to try to help," he says.

"Footballers are fortunate because we are paid good money for doing something that we enjoy. I just think that when it is possible I should try to give something back because I am aware that not everyone is as fortunate as I am.

"Whenever the collectors came to my door looking for donations for charity I always gave money but I just felt that I could do something more, that maybe a footballer could help something happen in one year that might otherwise have taken five.

"A photographer I know told me about the children in Nepal and I wanted to help them straight away. From that point we went on to set up the foundation and it is going well.

"Basically, we funded the building of a house for the children in Nepal to live in and I become the "father" of the house and Gertrude is the "mother".

Unlike most charitable organisations, the funding for the foundation is not provided by collections from the public or various fundraising initiatives. The bulk of it comes from Kuyt's commercial activities.

He says: "I have a contract with Adidas and whenever I do commercials with them I give the money to the foundation.

"I also have a Dirk Kuyt clothing line on the Internet where people can buy t-shirts, caps and socks and all the money from this is also given to the foundation."

In Holland, the Dirk Kuyt Foundation has helped young people from places like Katwijk, the village where Kuyt himself grew up, get opportunities in education they may not have otherwise had.

"Education is very important," says Kuyt. "If I wasn't a good football player, I would have given everything to studying. Katwijk is a fishing village but there is a lot of unemployment there so the foundation tries to help children who want to go to university or college by giving them scholarships.

"I don't see what I'm doing as special. It is just about giving something back."

Since moving to Liverpool last August, Kuyt has fallen in love with his adopted home. So much so that he has already held talks with Liverpool chiefs about extending the work of the foundation to the Merseyside area.

"I have spoken to the club," he says, "and hopefully we can do something. I love Liverpool already. Everyone has been so helpful and friendly to us - I don't think there are many places like this.

"I am hoping to be here for many years. Gertrude and myself already have one daughter, Noelle, she is two and she is going to nursery in Liverpool.

"Gertrude is also 23 weeks pregnant so we are looking forward to having a proper baby Scouser. It will be good to have someone who can tell me what Carra is saying to me!"

At the moment, the Kuyt household in South Liverpool is playing host to Dirk's father, Gerrit, who came over to see his son shortly before Christmas.

It is a visit which until relatively recently seemed it would be unlikely to happen as Gerrit Kuyt has been battling stomach cancer.

But in recent weeks his condition has improved markedly following a major operation to remove part of his stomach and his oesophagus.

"It has been difficult but things are looking much better now," says Kuyt, who credits his father with being the driving force behind his career.

"He is doing well and at the moment he is clear of cancer. He goes back to hospital at the end of the month and hopefully there will be more good news.

"He came over before Christmas and he has been to Liverpool's last five home games. It was great to have him over for Christmas because it was our first one in a new country and it was made even more special because we spent it with him."

With his father's health improving, his wife expecting their second child and the goals continuing to flow for Liverpool, life could hardly be better for Dirk Kuyt.

Now all he wants is for others to share in his own good fortune.

Teenager Boca Juniors defender Emiliano Insua Signs For Liverpool

Liverpool FC have announced their successful loan deal for Argentine teenager defender Emiliano Insua of CA Boca Juniors.

The Reds are understood to have completed the signing on November 28, 2006, and the 18-year-old Insua has arrived at Anfield after failing to make the first-team breakthrough at La Bombonera.

The Reds have taken the Under-20 international left-back on a 18-month loan deal, paying nearly £100,000. The move could be later finalised permanently after further payment of £1 million.

Earlier in the week, Rafa Benitez’s side signed 20-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder Sebastian Leto from Lanus for £1.85 million.

Leto will however remain with Lanus on loan till the end of the season.

Liverpool have attracted much flak for their humiliating loss to Arsenal in the Carling Cup quarters where the Reds’ youngsters looked ordinary.

However, Benitez is confident about his latest addition Insua and his quality. "He is a good, young player with a lot of potential."

Insua has been part of U-20 world champions Argentine side, which is now preparing for the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay.

Garcia out for rest of season

Liverpool's woes continued to deepen today, with Luis García being ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury picked up during last night's Carling Cup hammering by Arsenal.

García ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the 6-3 defeat, leaving Liverpool head of press Ian Cotton to admit: "We expect to be without Luis for six months."

Chilean midfielder Mark Gonzalez, meanwhile, is facing up to three weeks on the sidelines with the shin injury he suffered last night.

    Liverpool to sign Leto

Argentine Starlet Leto Relishing Liverpool Chance The young Atletico Lanus winger is relishing the prospect of playing for Liverpool, who have reportedly struck a deal with the Argentine club.
Argentine Starlet Leto Relishing Liverpool Chance

Liverpool have reportedly signed the prodigious winger from Lanus for just under $4 million, and loaned him back to the club for the rest of the season.

While any action alongside Gerrard and company will have to wait for next season, the starlet was confident about the prospect of representing the Reds.

"I am calm," said Leto. "Liverpool are a club with a lot of history, but I do not fear the challenge.

"I have not spoken with Benitez, but I have seen a lot of Premiership games on television.

"I'm a winger who likes to counter-attack. I don't anticipate struggling to adapt to life in England."

The 20-year-old Argentine is rated as one of the best young wingers in Argentina at the moment, and Benitez, who is looking for quality width on the pitch, jumped at the opportunity of landing him on the cheap.

Leto has played 34 games for Lanus since breaking into the first team, scoring six times.

Liverpool lead race for Scottish starlet

Liverpool have become the latest club to attempt to sign Hamilton Academicals youngster James McCarthy who has emerged as one of the hottest properties of the January transfer window.

The 16-year-old netted his first senior-level strike for the Accies in the weekend cup tie against Livingston, setting a record as the club's youngest-ever goalscorer, and his impressive form is understood to have tempted Rafael Benitez into making a bid.

Anfield scouts were able to run a closer eye than most over the attacking midfielder after he spent a week on trial at their Melwood base.

"From what I believe, Liverpool have tabled an offer for Jamie," Hamilton manager Billy Reid told Sky Sports.

"He went down there for a trial and played in a game for the reserves and he did exceedingly well. Jamie showed up well down there and they made an offer for him."

But the Reds will have to be swift if they are to land McCarthy with a number of other teams, both north and south of the border, ready to pounce.

"He is going down to Reading this week for a few days to take part in training and we will see how he goes down there," Reid concluded.

    Padelli nears deal with Liverpool

Sampdoria goalkeeper Daniele Padelli is close to joining Liverpool on loan.

"It's not done yet, but should be before the day ends," Sampdoria spokesman Matteo Gamba said Wednesday. Padelli has played six times for Italy's under-21 team and would likely provide backup to Liverpool's first-choice keeper, Jose Reina.

Current backup Jerzy Dudek has conceded nine goals in the past two games as Liverpool lost 3-1 and then 6-3 to Arsenal to exit the FA Cup and Carling Cup.

Padelli, 21, was recalled by Sampdoria after one appearance on loan with second division Crotone in the first half of this season.

Last season, he started for third division Pizzighettone. Padelli has no Serie A experience.

Mascherano-Liverpool is a done deal, but Fifa rules prohibit it

After recent rumours linking the Argentinean West Ham midfielder to Juve, Javier Mascherano is apparently close to joining Liverpool. However, a Fifa regulation prohibits for a player to switch clubs twice in one season. Mascherano started the season at Corinthians and later joined West Ham. The bianconeri, aware of this, had asked whether his stay at Corinthians could be considered as part of the 2005-06 season, instead of the current one. The Fifa rule would stop Mascherano from leving his current club, as it states that a player cannot play for more than two clubs in one season (starting and ending on July 1st). This perhaps is what sporting director Secco referred to when he said the deal was ‘complicated’.

As it stands both the Liverpool and the Juve option would be ruled out, even though the reds have allegedly asked Fifa to make an exception. It is now looking more likely that Juve and Liverpool will try and close the deal now but for the player to change side in July.

Liverpool set for double January swoop

    By James CarrollDate: 4/1/2007
Liverpool want to sign West Ham United midfielder Javier Mascherano and Blackburn Rovers' Lucas Neill during the January transfer window, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The Echo says that a board meeting today is expected to pave the way for the duo's arrivals, with manager Rafael Benitez hoping for a quick conclusion.
It's thought that Liverpool want to land Mascherano initially on-loan until the end of the season. The Argentina international has endured a torrid time at Upton Park following his high-profile transfer in the summer and has figured in just seven matches.
Benitez hopes that Mascherano can provide good cover for his central midfielders, with Momo Sissoko and Bolo Zenden still sidelined, and the Reds could look to make the move permanent in the summer if he adapts better at Anfield than he did at West Ham.
The Echo adds that Mascherano is keen to move to Liverpool and that the Reds have already agreed a deal with his representatives Media Sports Investments.
Meanwhile, Neill's long-awaited move to Anfield could finally become reality in the next few days. The Reds tried to signed the Aussie full-back in the summer, but could not agree a deal with Blackburn who wanted Stephen Warnock as part of any deal.
Liverpool are confident of landing the defender as his contract expires in the summer and, like Mascherano, the player wants to join Benitez's men.

HPN 2007,I think God Gave me a present - bolton&spur

After important win agaisnt spurs couple days ago.I really pleased to the second half perform like that. For me I think this year rafa get his squad after houllier era.And this year are the real rafa's team. And I like the team movement. The way liverpool play like Rafa alway say he want to create his liverpool like the way liverpool played in 70's-80s'.He learn from the way Bob praisley done for liverpool. For me this season.

Before the season started I think we have a real good squad.I though Rafa can do a good for player market.I though this a real season that's we can challenge the title. But I after we had a bad luck in row for away game agaisnt Everton,Chelsea,Man chester United,Bolton, arsenal and bolton. That's pity.We gotta improve our away game. For me we need another striker like Ian rush or instead Robbie.Look like we face the same problem like arsenal do is we can create a lot of chance but we can't sent the ball into the net like the match against Blackburn.

Yesterday perform is look like God gave a present to us.All the 3 goal are absolutely beauty. That's the one day that the kop are happy. The man of the match for me yesterday.Dirk Kuyt involved all the 3 goal yesterday. The 1st from Crouchy the bicycle goal. The 2nd from the captain and he finished the last by himself. He remind me the "king Kenny" Intelligence-strong-sharp.The last goal he finished is smart classic goal that show the quality he is.Kuyt is surely future liverpool legend. He gave Rafa to have a lot of option to play.He give a more dimension for liverpool to play.I happy yesterday and Thank God for the liverpool performance.

Anyway we got the long way to go in this season and I hope it's the best year to come with a lot of Trophy and May God bless everyone.May you have a great year coming.Success in everything you guy do God bless ........liverpool-clip.blogspot.com
